With more people getting involved with Moonshine Creek it seems important to share the overall vision of this place. The centennial tree invited me to steward this land and I started letting my dreams come alive.
Marco and I are both Camp Counselors and spent some of our best weeks in Summer Camps. About 20 years ago we had a chat conversation about dreaming up a space to invite our friends and guests to spend good times, recreating our best memories from our Camp days. I, Christine, would offer art classes, nature walks and other activities, while Marco would offer guitar music, campfire singing and cook for the group. After I attended the Immersion program at the Wilderness Awareness School for 9 months, living at Linne Doran in Duvall, I felt a strong calling creating my vision close to the school, supporting WAS and staying close to the Nature Connection Community homed all around the school and globally. I am part of this community since 2016 and deeply value what the school provides, the 8 shields model and permaculture principles. One way I want to support the school is to create affordable housing for the wider WAS community, especially Immersion Alumnus. Creating this space, I try to reuse and source most materials second hand (craigslist, OfferUp, Second Use, Marketplace, Goodwill). All tiny houses are second use. Most of our tools, toys and furnishing are second use. I particularly care for the forest at Moonshine, as I grew up playing in my uncle's forest and started stewarding a Park in Seattle and receiving training becoming a Master Forest Steward and a Native Plant Steward for Seattle Parks & Rec. We are still building the infrastructure but hope to shift to hosting more community events soon. We are always looking for collaborators for events. We like connecting people. We like encouraging people to spend time in nature - solo or as a group. We like to inspire others to listen to the trees and plant and protect native trees and plants and leave our environment for future generations. The longer term vision for Moonshine is to create a therapeutic space where individuals and groups can come to grow, relax, play and heal. I constantly think about ideas on how to use the Moonshine forest to help people. |
VisionMoonshine Creek Forest is a playful place where all beings are welcomed, witnessed and cared for. Big and tiny. Vocal and quiet. We foster community, stewardship and permaculture principles. Archives
